About Us

BEAMALLOY HISTORY

Beamalloy Technologies, LLC was originally founded as Beamalloy Corporation with the goal of developing and industrializing the use of direct ion implantation for non-semiconductor applications. The result was the development of the ion beam enhanced deposition (IBED) coating process, which was first patented in 1991. Subsequent patents have also been issued.  In 1998, Worthington Industries (NYSE, WOR) became interested in the IBED coating technology because of its potential application as a coating for the machining and stamping tooling used in its various manufacturing divisions as well as coatings for value-added precision engineered components.  A successful joint R&D project resulted in the eventual acquisition of BeamAlloy Corporation by Worthington Industries in 2000.

From 2000 through 2003, engineering staff at Worthington Beamalloy specified, designed, and constructed an industrial-scale IBED coating system which has sufficient volume capacity and production economics needed to process engineered components and manufacturing tooling for Worthington Industries and other customers.  After Worthington Industries was no longer in the precision metals business, Beamalloy was no longer a strategic fit, and the Beamalloy business was re-purchased from Worthington Industries by the original Beamalloy founders and a group of private investors and re-established as Beamalloy Technologies, LLC.  The jointly-developed coating system is still being used by Beamalloy Technologies, LLC to provide toll coating services for a variety of components and manufacturing tooling from a wide variety of industries. The Company now operates in a free-standing 12,500 square foot building in Plain City, Ohio.

Beamalloy recently finished construction and installation of a substantially scaled-up IBED coating system capable of processing much larger individual parts and greater volumes of small parts.  The system has a 6-foot-diameter processing chamber, operates in a closed-loop automatic mode, and can coat 3 dimensional parts with high precision and uniformity. This has allowed us to expand our TIONEX® coating services and incorporate our proprietary TIONEX® wear-resistant TiN coatings on a wide variety of precision parts for our customers.

WHERE ARE WE?

Our 12,000 square foot production facility is located Plain City, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio.  The facility is configured for quick turnaround toll coating services as well as coating process development.

FACILITIES ON-SITE

Toll coating equipment on-site includes two IBED coating systems manufactured in-house and designed for quick-cycle deposition of metallic and metallic nitride hardcoats.  The smaller IBED system chamber is three (3) feet in diameter and the larger IBED system chamber is six (6) feet in diameter.  Both are designed to handle parts in a batch coating mode.  The larger IBED system is located in a controlled atmosphere clean room area configured for coating of medical components. Parts cleaning equipment includes three 5-station ultrasonic cleaning systems.  Also on-site are two drag finishing polishing systems.

Additional on-site equipment includes a full-service machine shop complete with an NC mill, multiple lathes, drill presses, shot blasting hoods, a TIG welder, and a MIG welder.
